Lettuce Be Friends | Waffle Flower Crafts Card

by Robin

I saw this Lettuce Be Friends stamp set a few months back and just thought it was the cutest thing. I mean, come on! Who doesn’t like a smiling head of lettuce? I also enjoy a good pun, so I was all over this Lettuce Be Friends set from Waffle Flower Crafts. So far I’ve made this card (which I’ll walk through below) and a set of gift tags that I shared here! I’m sure I’ll be coming up with more ideas soon!

Lettuce Be Friends Tutorial:

Step 1. Stamp the lettuce image and color it in using Copic markers.

To get this Lettuce Be Friends card started, I stamped the little smiling lettuce stamp onto some Neenah solar white cardstock using Ranger jet black archival ink. Once the ink had dried, I started to color the image with my Copic Sketch markers.

I first laid down the lightest color, pale cobalt green (yg41). Then I added shadows with spectrum green (G02) as the mid-tone and emerald green (G05) as the darkest shade. I worked the ink into the image using a few different layers to make sure everything blended well. Once the ink was dry, I placed the matching die over top of the image and ran it through my Sizzix BigKick machine to cut it out.

Step 2. Create the sentiment.

Before putting my BigKick away, I also grabbed my Outside In Stitched Rectangle Stackables Die Set from Lawn Fawn and fed the second smallest square through the machine with some more Neenah solar white cardstock. I created this die-cut so that I could use it for the sentiment.

I also wanted the sentiment to pop off the white cardstock a little bit so I placed the lettuce be friends sentiment stamp on my Misti stamping tool and covered it in clear embossing ink. Then I stamped it down on the stitched square that I had cut out.  I also covered it in primary ebony super fine embossing powder from wow and heated the powder to melt it.

Step 3. Assemble the card design.

Next, I trimmed a sheet of cardstock and scored it down the middle to create an A2 sized card base for this lettuce be friends design. I also trimmed some patterned striped cardstock to be 5.5 x3.75 inches and adhered it to the middle of my card base using Scrapbook Adhesives mounting squares

I also found some sorta squiggly-looking black ribbon in one of my crafting drawers and thought it would be just perfect for this card, So I trimmed it down using my scissors and added it slightly below the center of the card base keeping it in place with scor-tape.

Step 4. Add embellishments to this lettuce be friends card.

Lastly, I put the finishing touches on the card by adding the sentiment to the card just slightly on the left-hand side, and the little lettuce friend overlapping the stitched square. To add a little final embellishment I also added some morning dew Nuvo Crystal Drops around the focal points on the card.
